Photographer Malta Shozo

Born in Shinjuku, Tokyo, 1964.
He took up photography in his childhood. In the early 1980s, he began to present his photographic works. After working in the television division of Toei Co., Ltd., Japanese film production and distribution company, he became a full-time photographer.

In 1994 he won the Newcomer’s Award of Japan Professional Photographers Society for his collection of photographs of Abandoned, “Abandoned Scenery”.

He is a pioneer in the field of Abandoned or Remains photography in Japan.
He created the term “Abandoned Scenery (ie. Kikei/Haikei)” . His works are regarded as the origin of Abandoned or remains photography that has became highly popular in recent years. He writes essays in the columns of Japanese newspapers, magazines.

His books include “Abandoned Car Fantasy,” “Railway Remains” “Abandoned Roads” “Sleeping Railroad” and “Tokyo Illusionary Scenery”
